Russ began his love of the Buell after selling his Fatboy in 2005. He’d had that bike for 6 years and after a test ride on the Buell, he decided it was time for a change. He kept his ’05 Buell for about a year and then upgraded to an ’06 model. He chose the XB9SX Lightning City X.

This bike comes with the see-through airbox cover and flyscreen which is a little unique. Russ was still looking for some custom paint though, but didn’t want to lose the identity of the bike.

Mark Walker from Queensland Motorcycle Panel and Paint came up with the result you see here. It’s a blue flame effect but still keeps the transluscent look of the airbox!

For a truly individual look, Russ imported carbon fibre parts from California which Mark applied a similar effect to. Gone are the original left and right air intakes, oil cooler cover and front guard. The belly pan also received some attention in the paint department. The carbon theme continued with a Jardine Carbon Fibre Slip On muffler!

John Moorhouse from Ergo Seats remodeled the original seat and turned the bike into a single seater. Mirrors came from 12 Gage at Slacks Creek and the headers were ceramic coated by Competition Coatings.

Not one to do half a job, Russ lashed out and added the rego plate “YEEHA”.

Russ has had the bike to the track at Queensland Raceway and reckons it leans through the corners, just like Eric Buell said it would!

And especially made for those track days were rear axle sliders that double as stand lifters. Russ has a mate Dan, who is an absolute genius at turning high density plastics. Dan has turned up the sliders for Russ’s Buell  but also does crash knobs for all Japanese sports bikes. The Buell sliders are now available at Morgan and Wacker! Dans business is called Speedstar Racing.

The bike won Best Streetfighter at the Odins Warriors show last year and he reckons there’s a few more wins left in it yet!
